Face it … Many swimmers and triathletes get stuck on the proverbial “plateau”, where they no longer are able to get faster or see improvements in their overall swim times. Swimmers who focus only on technique will develop a beautiful stroke in play, but if they don’t put in the training they will tend to regress when they try to perform. On the flip side, many athletes will apply “aggressive training”, usually swimming endless laps across the pool but have not improved  their technique or “feel” of the water to enable the time drops they desire.

Improvement is made when the athlete can advance their technique and incorporate this technique into the daily training regiment. This combination enables the sought after improvements the athlete desires and an ability to keep moving forward successfully.

Sea Star Swim School is proud to present a weekend of “Technique to Training” swim clinics and stroke analysis on December 8th and 9th at Sea Star Swim School, 127 Sanders Ferry Road in Hendersonville.

Athletes who participate in the clinics may choose to enroll in limited sessions featuring the latest technology that is becoming a game changer in the sport of swimming - the eo swimBETTER system. Eo utilizes hand sets that attach to the palm of the swimmers hands.The sets communicate to a monitor and help athletes quantify the effects of technique training and applied force of the stroke right on the pool deck. Immediate feedback is gained for the athlete and the technology allows coaches to isolate and pinpoint exactly where modifications are needed in the athlete’s stroke. 

The stroke clinics will be held at the following times:
  • December 8th     7-8:15 pm
  • December 9th     1:30-2:45 pm
Athletes can expect to be out of the water where they will be taught drills and look at some short video clips of what they will be taught in the pool. The in pool session will focus on the following components of an effective freestyle stroke. These include body position, hip manipulation, catch utilizing high elbow, and timing or putting it all together.
Cost for these sessions is $100 per athlete and are limited to 20 swimmers.

Swimmers who attend the clinic and would like to try the eo swimBETTER handsets can book an additional session on December 9th at one of the following times.
  • 3:15-3:30
  • 3:30-3:45
  • 3:45-4:00
  • 4:15-4:30
  • 4:30-4:45
  • 4:45-5:00
  • 5:00-5:15
These sessions are 15 minutes /swimmer and will include feedback using video and the eo swimBETTER handsets. (If you wish to purchase the handsets, there will be a limited number available and you will receive $100 off the pair)
Cost to attend these sessions is $125 per athlete. 

These sessions will be taught by Mike Bottom.  Mike will be assisted by MTSC Masters coaches Scott and Ron Chlasta.

  • Coached in seven consecutive Olympic Games – 1996 – 2000 – 2004 – 2008 – 2012 – 2016 - 2020. Head Coach for the Croatian Olympic Team in 2004 and 2008, for Serbia in 2012 and Yemen in 2020; USA assistant coach at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games
  • Coached six Big Ten Medal of Honor recipients: Dan Madwed – 2012, John Wojciechowski – 2014, Justin Glanda – 2015, PJ Ransford – 2018, Siobhan Haughey – 2019, Tommy Cope - 2020
  • Head Coach of Michigan Swimming and Diving combined men’s and women’s program for 11 years and coach of the men’s program for 15 years, 2008-2023. Named Big Ten Coach of the Year nine times.
  • Coached the men to one NCAA National Championship in 2013, and nine Big Ten Championships, and three Big Ten Championships for the women; nine individual nationals champions, 140 Big Ten individual and relay champions and more than 50 CSCAA All-Americans.
